The third edition of the event again attracted a bumper field but the only serious international entry was Paddy Hopkirk, back for his third try. Factory cars were entered by Ford, Renault, Volvo, BMC and one car from Datsun. Dealer entries were there for Holden and Mitsubishi. But more than a dozen of those on this list did not start for various reasons, including the three Indonesian entries. Some significant non-starters were Barry Ferguson, Jack Murray and Reg Lunn who were all getting ready to compete in the London to Sydney Marathon a month later. There is also no record of McPherson, Laing-Peach and Janson starting.
